Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Insurance

A Medicare supplement (Medigap) insurance policy can help to alleviate some of the health care costs that are not covered by Original Medicare. These supplement policies are sold by private insurance companies. If you have a Medigap policy in addition to Original Medicare, Medicare will pay the Medicare-approved amount for health care costs and then your Medigap policy will pay its share, which will differ depending on the policy you choose.

What does Medigap cover?

Medigap coverage will vary based on the type of Medigap plan you purchase, but most Medigap plans offer some combination of covering your coinsurance or copayment, deductible and up to three pints of any blood transfusions you may need.
